Meet Gigi Erhardt: Your New Nutritionist

by TGQ

The Nourishment Edit

The Gilded Queen has always believed that midlife is not a diminishment, but an arrival. Now, we’re bringing expert nutritional guidance to the conversation, because how you feed yourself in this decade matters more than anyone told you.

Let me be honest with you. For years I have understood the relationship between eating well and how you feel. In essence, I have bored friends and family alike with “You are what you eat”.   I ate reasonably well, moved my body when I could, and largely assumed that nutrition was something I had broadly figured out. Then midlife arrived… and I began to suspect that what I thought I knew might not be quite enough.

The sleep that used to come easily started requiring negotiation. The glass of wine that once felt like a civilised pleasure began leaving its mark in ways it didn’t used to. My energy became less reliable. In short, my body had moved the goalposts, and nobody had sent me the revised rulebook.

This, I suspect, is a story many of you know by heart.

Which is why I am genuinely delighted to introduce Gigi Erhardt to The Gilded Queen family.

The Gilded Queen

Who Is Gigi Erhardt?

Gigi is a qualified nutritionist with an adept way of defining health and midlife wellbeing. She is, crucially, not the kind of practitioner who will hand you a list of things to eliminate and send you on your way. She is warm, rigorous, pragmatic, and deeply attuned to the reality of how we live: the full, complicated, often delicious reality, not the sanitised version.

She understands that in midlife we are not simply older women. We are undergoing a profound physiological shift and one that changes how we metabolise food, how we build and lose muscle, how our gut functions, how our hormones interact with everything we eat and drink. Gigi understands, in other words, that this is a specific terrain. And she knows it well.

What The Nourishment Edit Will Cover

Each month Gigi will bring her expertise to these pages with intelligent, grounded guidance for women, or men (not forgetting our male followers) who want to understand what’s actually happening in their bodies and what, practically, to do about it.

Here is a taste of some of the topics that we’ll be exploring together:

Perimenopause & nutrition  — the dietary shifts that can genuinely change how this transition feels

Why protein matters more than ever  — and why most of us aren’t eating nearly enough of it

Gut health & hormones  — the connection your GP probably hasn’t mentioned

The truth about supplements  — what’s worth your money and what’s expensive optimism

Sleep and what you eat  — the two-way relationship that could change your nights

Alcohol in midlife  — not a lecture, but the honest biology you deserve to know

And This Month — Because It’s July

We are, as I write this, in the grip of a British heatwave. Those of us without air conditioning are conducting elaborate bedtime rituals involving ice packs, strategic window management, and a quantity of wishful thinking. Sleep, in short, is not coming easily.

It felt only right, then, that Gigi’s first piece should address exactly this: the relationship between heat, sleep, and what we put on our plates. What to eat and when to give ourselves the best possible chance of rest. Which nutrients are quietly working in the background to regulate body temperature and calm the nervous system. And what, perhaps, we might want to think twice about pouring into a glass at seven o’clock on a sweltering evening.

It is, I think, the most immediately useful thing we could hand you right now.

Out this week.
